Never had I even left Europe before. But there I was descending down the rickety plane steps, running on less than two hours of abysmal sleep. My heart raced with both fear and hesitation as I was about to meet the strangers with whom I would be sharing my next few weeks.
If you have solo travelled for some time as a woman, or simply existed, then I am sure you will know what I mean. From the glares, the interesting comments, and the constant voice at the back of your head telling you that you are never entirely safe. It is difficult to navigate, and for sure, solo travel is going to expose us to more risks. But that is not a reason to stop doing something.
